PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – A scorching hot fourth quarter from Temple did in the Marist women's basketball team as the Owls downed the Red Foxes, 83-77, Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia.
Alana Gilmer notched a career high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the loss.
SUMMARY
A good shooting first quarter for the Foxes in which the team started 8-for-15 from the field gave Marist an 18-14 lead after one. Temple bounced back with an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and pulled ahead. Threes from
Hannah Hand and
Allie Best would knot the game up again just about halfway through the quarter and the Red Foxes would take the lead back and carry a five point, 34-29 edge into halftime.
Despite being down, the Owls fought back with a 13-5 run to start the third and pulled ahead for one of 13 lead changes throughout the game. Temple used its seven point, 21-14 advantage in the third quarter to take a two-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Owls caught fire from there, knocking down their first five attempts from three, finishing the quarter 6-for-7 (.857) from three and 9-for-11 (.818) overall in the period. The Red Foxes shot the ball extremely well in the fourth as well, going 12-for-16 (.750) from the field but it wasn't enough to overcome Temple's three point barrage.

With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 3-8 overall with one game to go in non-conference action. Temple Improves to 8-3 overall.
KEY STATS
- Temple's Tanaya Atkinson led all scorers with 25 points to go along with eight rebounds. Mia Davis recorded a double-double for the Owls with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
- The Red Foxes had three players score in double-figures (Gilmer, Fitzpatrick, R. Hand) while Temple finished with four players in double-digits.
- Marist would outscore Temple in the paint, 32-26, both teams scored 13 points off turnovers, Temple had 18 second chance points to the Red Foxes seven and won the bench battle, 24-15.
- In her return to the court, Grace Vander Weide put up nine points, five rebounds, and three assists in 25 minutes of action.
NOTES
- The Red Foxes' 29 points in the fourth quarter were the most this season in a quarter for Marist.
- Temple came into the contest shooting .277 from the three point line this season but shot 13-for-30 (.433) from behind the arc in the game and 6-for-7 in the final period.
- The Red Foxes largest lead of the game was seven with 1:07 to go in the second quarter. Temple's largest lead was eight with 6:24 to go in the game. The lead changed hands 13 times and the score was tied five.
