Women’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Against Rhode Island

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist Women's Basketball team looks to turn things around and end its six-game losing streak this Wednesday as they duke it out with the Rhode Island Rams. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at McCann Arena.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
Last time out, the 1-6 Rams fell to in-state rival Providence in the Ocean State Tip-Off Consolation Game by a 65-41 margin. Sophomore center Nicole Jorgensen led Rhode Island with a team-high 14 points, while guard Ednaija Lassiter picked up six rebounds. Although the Rams out-rebounded the Friars 33-32, Rhode Island committed 21 turnovers that led to 25 Providence points. The only win this season for the Rams came in their first game of the 2017-18 campaign against UMass Lowell, where they picked up the 81-64 win at home.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE RAMS
The Red Foxes were unsuccessful in their last outing against Rhode Island, as they lost on the road by a score of 82-61 during the 2016-17 season. Marist was down 41-30 at the half and simply couldn't come back, as the Rams shot .500 (32-64 FG Percentage) for the game. Guard Allie Clement netted a team-high 19 points and three assists. Claire Oberdorf finished right behind Clement with 17 points, in addition to converting 9-12 free throws from the line.

PREVIOUS OUTING
The Dartmouth Big Green charged into Poughkeepsie and nabbed a 60-51 come from behind road win against Marist. After leading 45-40 going into the fourth, the Red Foxes lost their shooting touch and only scored six points for the rest of the game. Redshirt sophomore Alana Gilmer posted a double-double in the loss, as she scored a game-high 20 points and added 10 boards. The forward also went a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Maura Fitzpatrick netted 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and added three assists in 38 minutes of play.
