POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- The Marist women's basketball team lost in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup against Quinnipiac, 70-36, on Thursday night. The loss moves Marist to 13-16 overall, and 10-9 in the conference, while Quinnipiac moves to 23-6, and 16-3 in conference play.
The game was the team's annual Friend's of Jaclyn Night, in which the team held a special ceremony for Emma Levine, the Red Foxes new adoptee through the foundation.
Sophomore Lovísa Henningsdóttir led the Red Foxes in scoring, notching nine points, and grabbing four rebounds. Junior Kendall Baab also pitched in eight points and added four rebounds.
The Bobcats were able to gain an early lead over the Red Foxes, but defensive pressure and points from the stripe kept Marist close. An 11-0 run by Quinnipiac to end the quarter put them ahead by 11 going into the second quarter of play.
The Red Foxes were able to force turnovers in the second quarter, but were unable to turn them into points. Going into the locker room after the first half, the Bobcats led by a margin of 26-10.
Sophomore Rebekah Hand had four points and two steals in the half, and Lovísa Henningsdóttir had five rebounds and three steals in 20 first half minutes.
Baab opened the third quarter of play with a three-point basket, but Quinnipiac responded with two consecutive three-pointers of its own. Continued scoring by the Bobcats allowed them to extend their lead to 47-21 entering the final quarter of play.
Solid defensive play and three-point shooting from Quinnipiac staved off the Red Foxes comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.
Four players were in double digits scoring for the Bobcats, with Adily Martucci leading the team, scoring 11 points in 27 minutes.
The Red Foxes will host their final home game before the MAAC championships on Sunday, Feb. 26 against Manhattan. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.Â
