EASTON, Pennsylvania – The Marist women's tennis team, playing in its second match in as many days, defeated Lafayette 6-1 Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pennsylvania. With the win the Red Foxes improve to 3-1 in non-conference play.
Ariel Shulman and Amy Galloway teamed up to win the first point of the day for Marist as the duo defeated Lafayette's Tori Almeida and Grace Conrad, 6-0. The Red Foxes then dropped a match at third doubles before battling for the doubles point at the second position.
Sophia Moeller and Chloe Lant secured the doubles point by defeating Katie Hill and Meredith Block in a tight contest, 7-6 (2).
The Red Foxes then took control of the match in singles play, winning from the first, second, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles spots.
Shulman again got the Red Foxes off on the right track, defeating Rocine Moschella, 6-1, 6-0. Lafayette's Grace Conrad then put the Leopards on the board with their first point of the day coming from the third singles spot.
Undeterred, Marist's Lant then defeated Almeidia in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0, to give the Red Foxes a 3-1 match lead. Moeller closed out the Leopards defeating Gabby Montes, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the match.
Elizabeth Brozovich and Callie Morlock also won singles matches for the Red Foxes.
Up next, the Red Foxes will stay local and take on Army West Point on Saturday, March 4 in West Point, New York.
