POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Junior Gannon Morrison became the 17th Red Fox to reach 100 career points, but Marist ultimately fell to UMBC, 6-4, on March 11.
Morrison assisted on a goal by junior Mitchell Standera with 8:37 left in the second quarter to reach the century mark. He ended up with two points and freshman Joe Tierney had three assists. Redshirt junior Brian Corrigan made 13 saves.
Senior J.D. Recor extended his point streak to 34 games with a goal a little more than two minutes in, but the Retrievers scored three unanswered to go ahead 3-1 by the 11:38 mark of the second quarter.Â
Retrievers freshman Ryan Frawley got hot in the third quarter with two goals, but Tierney continued to find open men for Marist. He fed Morrison for his 16th goal of the season with 1:54 left in the third quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter ahead 5-4, UMBC was able to maintain possession for most of the final period. Frawley's fourth goal of the afternoon at the beginning of the fourth quarter sealed the Retrievers' win. Â Â
UMBC ended up 2-for-5 on the man up and outshot the Red Foxes 30-18. Junior Billy O'Hara powered the Retrievers' defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Marist senior Ralph Faiella had three caused turnovers and five ground balls.Â
The Red Foxes' next non-conference contest will be at Hartford. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 14. Â Â
