Women's Soccer Set For Sunday Matinee Against UNH

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team (1-1-0) will return to its home pitch on Sunday afternoon as they host the University of New Hampshire. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. as the Red Foxes look to continue their tough non-conference slate.

PREVIOUS OUTING
The Marist women's soccer team rallied with a late flurry but were unable to overcome two second half goals from St. John's, last Tuesday evening. After falling into a 2-0 hole, the Red Foxes got an 86th minute goal from freshman Nicole Sasso. Sasso headed one home off a free kick from Alexa Svensson to cut the Red Foxes deficit and then in the 88th minute Camille Bowen's rocket shot from outside the box hit the cross bar and nearly leveled the game. St. John's would hold on from there but the Red Foxes impressed against a perennial Big East power.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
UNH enters Sunday's contest with three solid home victories under its belt. With wins over LIU Brooklyn, Sacred Heart, and Colgate, the perfect 3-0 start is the best start for the Wildcats since 1991. The two team's one and only meeting was back in 2006, when New Hampshire defeated Marist 2-0.

New Hampshire returns six of the top eight point producers from last year's squad that was ousted in the league semifinals by a one-goal margin. Also of note, eight starters return.

FOXES NEWCOMERS
The Red Foxes have now had two games in a row with a freshman goal scorer. Sasso struck in the St. John's game while Annika Nielsen tallied her first career goal against Delaware State. The Red Foxes have had contributions all across the lineup and will look to continue that trend considering the 11 member class of newcomers make up a large portion of the team.

MAJOR AWARDS
Freshman forward Annika Nielsen was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the week, taking home the MAAC's first honor of the season. Nielsen scored off a cross from sophomore Keri Bradley in the 31st minute just minutes after checking into the game against Delaware State.
