KINGSTON, Rhode Island – The Marist men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net on Sunday and suffered its second loss of the season with a 3-0 defeat at the Rhode Island Rams.
SUMMARY:
The Rams got on the board first with just under three minutes remaining in the first half when a cross into the box found an open player who headed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until 25 minutes into the second half when a Red Fox turnover at midfield gave Rhode Island a quick counter attack and two passes later it was 2-0 Rams. Marist pressed for the equalizing goals but with five minutes left in regulation, Rhode Island found space behind the Red Fox defense and slotted home the game's third goal for the 3-0 win.

Quote:
" I thought we started slow, the first 20 minutes of the game Rhode Island was better than us and then for about the middle 45 I thought we played well. It just was a little bit not clinical in front of the goal. We didn't finish our chances when we got them and gave up a bad goal in the first half. It was a tough ask to begin with based on the schedule but that is not an excuse, we still have to find ways but we will take lessons from this and hopefully apply them when we get into conference play" – head coach Matt Viggiano.
Up Next:
Next up Marist will travel to the Bronx for a matchup at Fordham on Wednesday at 7 PM. Fordham currently stands at 2-2-1 on the season and are coming off a 4-0 win at Lafayette on Friday. Last season, they went 10-7-4 and won the Atlantic 10 Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament but fell to the Boston College Eagles 1-0 in the first round.
