Men's Soccer Travels to Fordham

BRONX, New York – The Marist men's soccer team will look to bounce back to winning ways when the Red Foxes travel south for a matchup at the Fordham Rams on Wednesday at 7 PM.

LAST TIME OUT:

Marist (3-2) is coming off a 3-0 loss at Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon. Rhode Island got on the board first with just under three minutes remaining in the first half when a cross into the box found an open player who headed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until 25 minutes into the second half when a Red Fox turnover at midfield gave Rhode Island a quick counter attack and two passes later it was 2-0. Marist pressed for the equalizing goals but with five minutes left in regulation, Rhode Island found space behind the Marist defense and slotted home the game's third goal for the 3-0 win.

3x RANKINGS:

The Red Foxes are currently ranked #5 in the United Soccer Coaches Northeast Poll released this week. The ranking marks the third consecutive week Marist has been included in the poll, coming in at #2 in the Aug. 29th poll and #4 in the Sept. 5th poll.

LEADING AS A FRESHMAN:

Freshman Allen Gavilanes currently leads the team with four assists and eight points and is tied for first with two goals and 10 shots total. In just five career games for the Red Foxes, he has one game with one goal and two assists, has one game with one goal and one assist and has recorded at least one point in three of five. 

DÉJÀ VU:

The match against the Rams is the second time this season the Red Foxes have played games against back-to-back teams with the same mascot. Marist played the Hartwick Hawks followed by the Hartford Hawks and the Rhode Island Rams followed by the Fordham Rams.

SCOUTING THE RAMS:

Fordham currently stands at 2-2-1 on the season and are coming off a 4-0 win at Lafayette on Friday. Seniors Jannik Loebe and Christopher Bazzini lead the team with two goals each, while Loebe is also first with two assists, six points, 15 shots and four shots on goal. Junior Rashid Nuhu has played all five games for the Rams in goal and has surrendered just four goals against while making 14 saves for a .770 goals against average and a .778 save percentage.

Last season Fordham went 10-7-4 and won the Atlantic 10 Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament but fell to the Boston College Eagles 1-0 in the first round.

UP NEXT:

Following the match against Fordham, the Red Foxes will wrap up their season long six game road swing with a short trip to the Army West Point Black Knights on Sunday at 7 PM. Last season Marist topped the Black Knights 2-1 on a goal with less than one second left in the game.
