Red Foxes Will End Non-Conference Play In Big Apple Battle

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team (3-6) will wrap up its out of conference schedule when it faces off against St. Francis-Brooklyn (3 p.m.) and LIU Brooklyn (6:30 p.m.) in consecutive matches Sept. 15.
 
Live stats will be provided for both Friday matches of the Big Apple Battle. Two of the Red Foxes' three wins this season have come on Fridays, as Marist defeated Lehigh, 3-1, in its 2017 regular season opener Aug. 25 and took down Binghamton, 3-2, in its home opener Sept. 1.    
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
Marist lost its matches to Rhode Island (3-2), Columbia (3-0) and Northeastern (3-0) at the Art Carmichael Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Nikki DeSerpa was selected to the All-Tournament Team after she tallied 32 kills, 16 digs and three service aces in the non-conference bouts.
 
The Red Foxes owned a slight 19-18 edge in total blocks in the three matches with 13 coming against Rhode Island. Sophomore Stephanie Stone has jumped for 30 total blocks this season, which is the most of any Red Fox.
 
SCOUTING REPORTS
 
St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers
 
The Terriers (4-7) have won two straight matches and will play their second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team this week having already swept Saint Peter's on Sept. 13.
 
St. Francis-Brooklyn owns a 70.5 to 51 advantage over its opponents in total blocks this season and is second in the Northeast Conference averaging 1.96 blocks per set. Senior Aleksandra Gligoric has slammed a team-high 127 kills and is third in the conference averaging 3.63 kills per set.    
 
LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds
 
Tournament host LIU Brooklyn (4-6) is the defending NEC Champions and will play its first home match of the season against the Red Foxes. The Blackbirds lost all three of their contests at the Tar Heel Invitational last weekend.
 
Sophomore Filippa Hansson and freshman Piper Matsumoto have combined for 24 of the team's 52 service aces this season. Defensively, sophomore Natalia Rivera is second in the NEC in digs per set (5.27).
 
UP NEXT
 
The Red Foxes will begin MAAC play with a match at Siena on Tuesday, September 19. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in Loudonville, New York.
