HOLMDEL, New Jersey – The Marist men's cross country team won the Henry Mercer Monmouth Invitational on Saturday.
Battling tough conditions on a hot and humid day while contending with a hilly course, the Red Foxes benefitted from a standout performance from
Dietrich Mosel and a two-through-five pack which was separated by under 15 seconds. A senior captain, Mosel finished second overall in 26:27.20, a personal best time by 1:33 on the course from his freshman year. The Red Foxes' two through five runners (sophomore
Christopher Rivas, senior
Steven Rizzo, junior
Palmer Weimann, and sophomore
Alexander Hogue) placed eighth, 10
th, 11
th, and 14
th, respectively.
"It was good for our men to get on the MAAC Championship course, and this is a solid early-season performance," Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Pete Colaizzo said. "We still have a lot of work to do, but this is positive starting point for now."
Marist returns to action on Friday, Sept. 29 with the Paul Short Run at Lehigh.
