POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's cross country team opened the season with a victory, winning the program's annual home meet, the Marist Invitational, on Saturday morning.

The Red Foxes finished first with 19 points, while the Iona Gaels came in second with 50 points and the Fairfield Stags finished third with 68 points.

Senior co-captain Dietrich Mosel was the race's and team's top overall finisher, coming in with a time of 18:51.5. Senior co-captain Steven Rizzo placed third overall with a time of 19:18.9, junior Michael Kennedy placed fourth with a time of 19:22.7, sophomore Christopher Rivas placed fifth with a time of 19:23.2 and junior Palmer Weimann placed sixth with a time of 19:23.8 to round out Marist's top five finishers.

Following the ceremony the cross country and track and field senior class was honored with a senior day ceremony. Those honored were Will Duggan, Sami Ellougani, Joe Miller, Steven Morrison, Dietrich Mosel, Steven Rizzo and Josh Siegel (track).

The Red Foxes are back in action next Saturday at the Wolfie Invitational in Stony Brook, NY.
