HEMPSTEAD, New York – The Marist women's tennis team competed at day one of the Hofstra Pride Invitational Friday morning and afternoon taking part in singles and doubles matches.
In the B singles bracket,
Julia Gabay started her day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wagner's Vedika Anand. Gabay then faced off against FDU's Marta Rusczyzynska but fell in the tiebreak, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
Also in B singles,
Sam Galu dropped her matches to Hofstra's Alejandra Ruffini and Fordham's Carolina Sa while
Claire Schmitz dropped her two matches to Hofstra's Jasmine King and Fordham's Gianna Insogna.
In C singles,
Amy Galloway picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Saint Peter's Marta Ortega,
Elizabeth Brozovich won her match over Saint Peter's Aida Muhammad, 6-1, 6-0, and
Sophia Chavarria dropped her match to Wagner's Rina Baynes, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Gabay and Schmitz then teamed up in A doubles but fell to Hofstra's Kaplan and Ruffini then went on to defeat FDU's Eftenoui and Vladescu in the consolation bracket.
Galloway and Galu went on to defeat Wagner's Hodges and Bayes, 6-0 in the B doubles bracket before falling to LIU's Grigoryan and Krug. Chavarria and Brozovich won their first B doubles match 6-0 over Saint Peter's pairing of Ortega and Hughes but then fell in the second round to LIU's Gogova and Leysen.
The Red Foxes will wrap up play at the Hofstra Pride Invitational Saturday morning and afternoon. The Red Foxes will then get started on preparation for their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Rider on October 17
th.
