Home Sweet Home: Volleyball To Host Two MAAC Matches

Editor's Note: Watch the attached video for more on the Marist volleyball team's national anthem singer for home matches, freshman defensive specialist Jocelyn Gorman (additional footage courtesy of Jocelyn Gorman).

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – For the first time in four weeks the Marist volleyball team (5-9, 2-1 MAAC) will play in McCann Arena when it hosts Manhattan on Sept. 30 and Iona on Oct. 1 in a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches. First serve for both contests is slated for 1 p.m.

Sunday's match will be Greek Day, as Marist will welcome members of fraternities and sororities on campus to the contest. Marist sunglasses will be given out to the first 100 fans in attendance.

Live stats will be available and there will be free live video streams of each match on the Red Fox Network.

LONG AND WINDING ROAD

The Red Foxes are coming off a streak of nine consecutive road matches dating back to Sept. 5, but will be home for seven of the next 10 contests. Five of the contests on the away stretch came in tournament play and three more began the MAAC slate.

During the Buffalo trip Marist lost to Niagara in five sets on Sept. 23 but got its second shutout in conference play when it took down Canisius the following day. Junior Lauren Waide had a career day against the Purple Eagles, slamming 15 kills and racking up a .481 attack percentage. Marist swiped eight service aces at Canisius, with junior Taylor van der Biezen and senior Kelsey Ediger getting two apiece.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Marist junior Katie Brierley has taken over the libero position and was named MAAC Libero of the Week on Sept. 26. In three matches to begin conference play she averaged 4.73 digs per set. She leads the Red Foxes defensively with 167 digs so far this season.

As a team the Red Foxes continue to sit atop the conference averaging 1.90 blocks per set. Sophomore Stephanie Stone has jumped for a team-high 41 total blocks.

SCOUTING REPORTS

Iona Gaels

The Gaels (5-11, 3-2 MAAC) are 2-2 in their last four matches with their two victories coming in shutout fashion. They have 42 blocks in their five conference matches.

Junior Claire Archibald is first in the MAAC in total points (240.5) as well as kills (3.56) and aces per set (0.51). Her 29 total service aces put her 11th in the nation.
