Marist Will Head Across Hudson River To Play Local Rival

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – With only a couple days removed from its last competition, the Marist volleyball team (3-2) will take on Hudson Valley rival Army West Point (3-3) in a non-conference clash at 7 p.m. Sept. 5. Live stats will be available and there will be a free live video stream on the Patriot League Network.

Tuesday night will mark the 13th straight year both teams have faced off against each other and the only non-tournament match outside of conference play for both sides this year. The Red Foxes won two of the last three meetings, but the Black Knights took last season's matchup in McCann Arena, 3-0.

VOLLEY IN THE VALLEY SUCCESS

Marist hosted the Volley In The Valley during the Labor Day weekend, defeating Binghamton in a five set thriller Sept. 1 and falling to Cleveland State, 3-1, the following day. The Red Foxes have won the opening set in each of their five matches this season.

HOT HANDS

Senior Ashton Korona and junior Taylor van der Biezen were named to the Volley In The Valley/Rose Hill Classic All-Tournament Team. Korona was dominant all over the court, putting up 14 kills and 13 total blocks, including two solo. While setting up the hitters all weekend van der Biezen registered 82 assists, including a career-high 52 against the Bearcats on Friday night. Defensively she dove for 27 digs.

SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT

The Black Knights dropped two of their three matches in the Pentagon Invitational over the weekend to get to .500 on the young season. All their road contests ended in shutouts, as they fell to Air Force and Georgetown and took down the Citadel.

Senior Carolyn Bockrath is Army West Point's top hitter, averaging 3.00 kills per set alongside a .471 attack percentage that leads the Patriot League. Freshman Ana Oglivie has swiped eight service aces in just four matches played.

LOOKING AHEAD

Marist will go back into tournament play when it heads to Kingston, Rhode Island, for the Art Carmichael Invitational on Sept. 8-9. The Red Foxes' matches will be pretty spread out, as they will face the host Rams at 11 a.m. Friday and battle Columbia at 4 p.m. that same day. Their weekend in the New England region wraps up Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against Northeastern.
