POUGHKEEPSIE, New YorkĀ ā The Marist Women's Basketball will look to start a new streak when it takes on the Siena Saints Thursday evening at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. Tip-off for the game is set for 5 p.m. as the frontend of a men's and women's doubleheader. The Red Foxes currently stand at 8-9 overall and 4-1 in conference.
PREVIOUS OUTING
The Red Foxes played stout defense to start the game, limiting Fairfield to two points while adding 17 of their own in the first quarter. Their scoring run was highlighted by back-to-back threes from
Rebekah Hand and
Grace Vander Weide. Fairfield started to find an offensive rhythm in the second quarter but struggled to slow down the hot handed Red Foxes. Marist ended the half up 42-19 scoring 51.9 percent from the field. Fairfield would fight back but couldn't overcome the big lead the Red Foxes built in the first half. Vander Weide finished the game with her first career double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
SIENA HISTORY
The Red Foxes hold a 31-30 advantage in the all-time series against Siena and split last season's series losing the first but winning the second against the Saints, 70-59.
Rebekah Hand led the Red Foxes with a game-high 20 points and added 7 rebounds.
Lovisa Henningsdottir had a big game for Marist scoring 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting from three.
Maura Fitzpatrick added 14 points and
Hannah Hand was the fourth Red Fox in double-digits, finishing the game with 10 points. Before last season's second meeting, the Red Foxes had dropped two in a row to Siena after winning the previous 25 games in the series before that.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Siena enters Thursday's game with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-4 MAAC mark with conference wins over Rider and Iona. The Saints are losers of their last three after coming up short against Canisius and Niagara during their Buffalo trip. Kollyns Scarbrough has led the Saints in scoring in the last seven contests and leads the team in overall scoring (16.4 PPG) and rebounding (7.6 RPG). The Saints have no other players averaging double-digits, Maddie Sims is the team's second leading scorer, averaging nine points per game.
