Women's Baskeball Closes Buffalo Swing Sunday At Canisius

Red Foxes After Fourth Straight MAAC Win Sunday Against The Griffs

BUFFALO, New York – The Marist Women's Basketball team will conclude its weekend trip up to Buffalo when they take on Canisius Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. In the last 13 seasons since 2004-05 the Red Foxes have never been swept and after their win against Niagara on Saturday are 25-2 on their annual Buffalo trip against Niagara and Canisius.
 
PREVIOUS OUTING
The Red Foxes trailed big early but fought back to hold on for an 84-78 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles Friday night at the Gallagher Center. Rebekah Hand (22), Maura Fitzpatrick (21), and Alana Gilmer (21) combined for 64 of the Red Foxes 84 points in the victory. With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 11-10 overall and 7-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
 
LAST YEAR AGAINST CANISIUS
The Red Foxes were 2-0 against Canisius last season, winning on the road 85-74 and then at home 67-60. In the first game, Maura Fitzpatrick scored a career-high 28 points and after scoring 25 in the first quarter and only eight in the second, the Red Foxes rattled off quarters of 25 and 28 respectively, both season highs. The team's 53 second half points was also a season-high. In the second game, Claire Oberdorf was the high scorer for Marist, totaling 19 points and setting a career high with 12 rebounds. Kendall Baab also set a career high with 14 points and pitched in with three assists. The Red Foxes hit 13 three-pointers, shooting 38.2 percent from long-range.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius currently sits at 6-14 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Golden Griffins dropped their last game to the MAAC leading Quinnipiac Bobcats, 84-55, Friday morning at the Koessler Athletic Center. Sara Hinriksdottir leads the Griffs in scoring, putting up 14.3 points per contest. The Red Foxes have no other players that score in double-digits and average 55.3 points per game. The Griffs strength is in their three point defense, holding the opposition to .277 shooting from deep.
 
CANISIUS HISTORY
The Red Foxes and Golden Griffins series history stands at 34-14 in Marist's favor. The Red Foxes had won the three previous matchups against Canisius.
