POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team remained unbeaten in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 65-40 win over the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday night at McCann Arena.
With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 7-8 overall and 3-0 in MAAC action.
GAME SUMMARY
Marist opened the game by jumping out to the early 5-0 lead while holding the Jaspers scoreless for the first 2:44. The Red Foxes opened their largest lead of the half on a three pointer by
Hannah Hand with 26 seconds remaining and after one quarter it was Marist ahead 18-11.
The Red Foxes continued their momentum into the second quarter and extended the advantage to 16 points on a layup by
Rebekah Hand at 4:58. However, Manhattan answered back with an 11-3 run to end the half and send the teams into the locker room at 32-24 in favor of Marist.
The second half proved to be much like the first as the Red Foxes built their lead to as many as 25 and held the Jaspers to only 16 points, the lowest point total allowed by Marist in a single half this season.
KEY STATS
- The Red Foxes committed just 10 turnovers to Manhattan's 15
- The Jaspers shot just 21.4% from the field in the game and 18.2% from three point range, while Marist shot 50% from the floor and 33.3% from behind the arc
- The Red Foxes out rebounded Manhattan 34-33 but the Jaspers held a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass
GAME NOTES
- The 16 points total allowed by Marist in the 2nd half was the lowest point total allowed by the Red Foxes in a single half this season
- Sophomore Grace Vander Weide tied a career high with 6 assists
- Junior Maura Fitzpatrick finished tied with a team high 14 points and notched her eighth consecutive game with double digit scoring
