POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Women's swimming and diving kicked off its season at home in McCann Natatorium against Canisius. Despite losing a tight meet 160-140, the team had a lot of good highlights and got many positive contributions from their freshman
The women had several tight races with the Golden Griffens. In the 200-yard medley relay, Marist's team of
Veronica Stureborg,
Georgeanne Zimmerman,
Emma Butzler and
Georgeanne Zimmerman came in second with a time of 1:52.97. Canisius edged them by only .13 seconds.
Amanda Poor finished the 200-yard breaststroke .26 seconds behind the winner with a time of 2:29.54.
Esabelle Gervasio shined on the diving boards, winning both the 3- and 1- meter dives with scores of 245.62 and 269.32. Her score on the 3-meter was a career high.
Grace Reeves finished third in the 3-meter.
Emma Butzler had a great rookie meet, finishing first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and second in the 100-yard freestyle.
Jordyn Deubel also performed well for her first meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle, taking second in the 200-yard IM and placing third in the 1000- yard freestyle.
Marist will be back in competition next Thursday at Fordham. Meet time is set for 6 pm.
