MAAC No. 2 Men's Soccer to Take on No. 1 Fairfield

Wednesday Night's Matchup May Determine Top Seed

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - On Wednesday, the No. 2 ranked men's soccer team will take on No. 1 Fairfield in their last away game of the season. It is slated to start at 7 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Last time out for Marist saw them play to a 1-1 tie at Canisius College.
  • Canisius held the lead for most of the game, but in the final three minutes Beau Hornberger headed in the equalizer to prevent the early loss.
  • In overtime, the Red Foxes had three shots on goal but could not break through the Golden Griffin's last line of defense.
  • Ryan Sinnott would make two saves in double-overtime to secure the draw.
  • The tie brings Marist's record to 5-1-1 for a second place tie in the MAAC and a 6-4-3 overall record for the season.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
  • Fairfield also played to a tie in their last match.
  • They would end with a 0-0 score against Quinnipiac to bring their MAAC record to 6-0-1 and remain in first place. The Stags have an overall record of 9-4-1 for the season.
  • Diego Casielles leads the team with four goals and an assist, while three other players have scored three goals each.
  • Matt McGlinchey leads the MAAC with six assists this season.

  • With three games remaining in the regular season, the Red Foxes are slated to play two of the other top three teams in the conference back-to-back.
  • Marist will clinch a spot in the spot in the MAAC Playoffs with a win.
  • Goalkeeper Ryan Sinnott ranks second in the conference in goals-against average (0.76), save percentage (.816) and shutouts (4).
  • With one more win, Marist men's soccer will secure their best MAAC record since joining the conference in 1997 (currently 6-3-0).
  • Preseason Player of the Year Allen Gavilanes leads the team with four goals and three assists, while Samad Bounthong is up there with him with four goals and two assists. Freshman Skylar Conway has chipped in three goals and four assists as well.
