POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's soccer team defeated the Iona Gaels 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Tenney Stadium for their second MAACÂ victory. With the win, the Red Foxes improved their overall record to 3-4-2. Â
Freshman Skylar Conway got Marist on the board first. He found the top right corner of the net at 16:06 off of a perfectly-placed ball by senior David Nkansah-Siriboe. This was the first goal of Conway's career.
Just five minutes later at the 21' mark, Skylar Conway sent in a pass from long range and Beau Hornberger tapped it into the bottom right corner to secure the goal.
Iona countered with a goal of their own at 23:10. Mauro Bravo took a well-placed free kick that Ali Dawha headed in.
Junior goalie Ryan Sinnott had a huge save at 70:56. Iona took a penalty kick from just outside the box that was headed for the bottom left corner, but Sinnott laid out to preserve the 2-1 lead.
Minutes after that save, Sinnott had another one, followed by a block from junior Michael Lorello that kept the Foxes in front.

"I'm beyond proud of my guys. They gutted it out tonight. They went from a selfish act to coming together as a team" lauded Coach Viggiano. "Obviously we had a good lead, and I think we deserved to be up 2-0. We kind of fell asleep and let them get back into it. But in the second half, playing down a man the whole half, I was just so proud of them. They put on a clinic on how to play down a man. It was a pleasure to watch as a coach. I asked the guys at half time, 'Are you in or out on the season?'. We don't want guys that are half in, we want guys who are in for the whole group. It's about the name on the front of the shirt. I just reiterated it at half time, 'Now we're going to see who's in or out'. They showed to me tonight, and I'm proud of them."

The Red Foxes will head north up Route 9 to take on MAAC rival Siena on Saturday, October 6th. Kickoff is set for noon.
