Marist Drops Tough Game to Drake

The Red Foxes Were in it Until the End

DES MOINES, Iowa – Marist battled through some tough weather but fell 13-10 in the final minutes in a heartbreaking loss to Drake. The Red Foxes now sit at 5-5 overall and 5-2 in the PFL.
 
SUMMARY
  • Drake drove into the red zone early in the first quarter but the Red Foxes defense held them to a field goal with 10:54 left on the clock.
  • Marist's best opportunity to score in the first quarter came when the Red Foxes went for a 29-yard field goal with thirty seconds left but the kick was blocked.
  • The Bulldogs intercepted the ball at the Marist 30-yard but Justice Seales picked off Butler shortly after to preserve the 3-0 score with 11:50 left in the second quarter.
  • Willie Barrett got the second interception of the game in the third quarter, returning the ball for 31 yards to the Drake 26. Marist was able to capitalize on the interception with a 27-yard field goal from Mateo Zapata to tie it up 3-3.
  • Juston Christian caught a dart from Austin Day and ran it for 67 yards to the one yard line. The Red Foxes would not score on that possession but would hold the bulldogs to a three and out in their endzone and get the ball back at the Drake 25 yard line. Christian caught a floater for a touchdown to give Marist its first lead of the game with 10:51 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Drake immediately responded with a touchdown of its own to tie it up 10-10.
  • A Drake interception set up a field goal to give the Bulldogs the lead with 1:51. Marist had the opportunity to come back but would throw an interception to seal the game.
STATS
  • Christian finished with 113 yards and one touchdown.
  • Anthony Olivencia finished the day right behind Christian with 85 yards.
  • Enmanuel Soriano led the defense with 10 tackles, one sack and 2.5 TFL.
  • The defense limited Drake to 3 of 16 on third down conversions and forced two fumbles.
  • Drake's Will Warner caught all three of the Bulldog's interceptions
NOTES
  • Ryan Webb finished the game with a career high four pass break ups.
  • Christian now has over 1,000 receiving yards on the season for the second year in a row. He also broke the single season touchdown record with his 13th touchdown of the season.
  • Marist is 0-7 against Drake.
UP NEXT
Marist will host University of San Diego next Saturday at 12 pm at Tenney Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, Marist will honor its seniors.
