Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, New York - The Marist volleyball team fell to the #1 seeded Iona Gaels 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Red Foxes' record falls to 14-13 overall and 11-6 in the MAAC. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
- In the first set, the Gales quickly went up 2-0, but sophomore Sarah Austin smashed back-to-back kills to quickly tie the game. Marist would stretch the lead to 16-12, but the Gaels would take four out of the next five points to tie the game at 17. After being tied at 20, Iona would take the last five points of the set to win it. Austin would have a set-high six kills.
- Set two started with a lot of back and forth action. Austin and junior Nikki DeSerpa would get back-to-back kills to tie the set at six. After the set was tied at nines, Iona went on a 3-0 run to expand the lead to 12-9, but then the Red Foxes went on a 3-0 run of their own to tie it up again at 12. Iona would dominate the remainder of the set, winning it 25-16.
- Set three also started with some back and forth action, with the set eventually being tied at sixes. Iona would begin to dominate, going on a 7-0 scoring run to stretch the lead to 18-8. The Red Foxes did not go down without a fight, taking eight of the next 10 points to bring the score to 20-16. Iona would go on to secure the sweep with a 25-20 win.                     Â
