BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated at Patriot League preseason favorite Lehigh by a score of 78-72 on Tuesday night at Stabler Arena.
- Marist held Lehigh to just three points in the game's first five-and-a-half minutes.
- Marist's lead reached as high as 12 in the first half at 30-18, when senior forward Ryan Funk connected on the third of his four three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. Lehigh responded by reeling off eight straight points, and cut Marist's lead to 33-28 at halftime.
- The lead changed hands four times in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the second half.
- With 8:56 remaining, a three-pointer by senior guard Brian Parker gave Marist a 62-53 lead, its largest of the second half.
- Funk hit a pair of free throws with exactly four minutes to play, which gave Marist a 72-69 advantage. Those were the last points the Red Foxes scored, as Lehigh closed the game with nine straight points. A basket by Jordan Cohen with 3:27 remaining gave the Mountain Hawks the lead for good.
- Marist hit 15 three-pointers in 29 tries. The Red Foxes shot .517 on threes, and .308 (8-for-26) on twos.
- Parker led Marist with 17 points, added six rebounds, and tied for the team lead with five assists.
- Funk (16 points) and senior guard David Knudsen (14 points) gave the Red Foxes three double-digit scorers.
- Kyle Leufroy led Lehigh with 23 points, 20 of which came in the second half.
- Pat Andree finished with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Mountain Hawks.
- Lehigh shot 13-for-27 (.481) from three, including 8-for-13 (.615) in the second half.
- There were zero blocked shots in the entire game.
- Senior forward Isaiah Lamb set a career high with nine rebounds.
- Funk tied his career high with three steals.
- Marist is now 0-6 against Lehigh all-time. This was Marist's second trip to Lehigh all-time, with its previous one coming in 2009.
- Lehigh is the second of three Patriot League teams Marist will face this season, all on the road. The Red Foxes opened their season at Army West Point last Tuesday, and will play at Colgate on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Marist is now 1-2 on the season. Lehigh improved to 2-1.
"I thought we played well, and I'm proud of the effort," head coach
John Dunne told the Red Fox Network postgame. "There are no moral victories, but I know we're getting better as a team and a program."
After a week off, Marist will play its first game as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Stephen F. Austin.
