Volleyball Set to Begin MAAC Tournament

The Red Foxes Will Open the Tournament Against Saint Peter's

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist volleyball will play in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tomorrow against #8 seed Saint Peter's at 5:00 p.m. The tournament will take place in Orlando, Florida at the ESPN Sports Complex.
 
SEASON OVERVIEW
Marist went 14-14 in the regular season including 11-7 in MAAC play to finish the season ranked #5 going into the tournament. The Red Foxes have posted a victory against every MAAC team outside of #1 seed Iona this season.
 
TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
The tournament will take place from November 15-17. All first round match ups will take place on Thursday, November 15. Second round matches will take place in the morning of November 16 followed by semifinal matches in the evening. The championship will take place on November 17 at 3 p.m. After each round, the teams will be reseeded with the highest seeded team facing the lowest seeded team. #1 seed Iona and #2 Canisius will have double byes into the semifinal round.
 
PREVIEWING SAINT PETER'S
Marist defeated Saint Peter's both times the Red Foxes played them, beating the team away 3-0 and taking the Peacocks down at home 3-1. The Peacocks went 5-13 in conference play but are riding a two win streak going into the tournament. The team is led by rookie sensation Karen Ramiu who leads the MAAC in points per set and is second in kills per set with 3.86.
 
LEADERS IN THE MAAC
Nikki DeSerpa has been one of the top outside hitters in the MAAC, ranking fourth in kills per set with 3.26 and fifth in points per set with 3.69. Stephanie Stone leads a Marist squad that ranks second in the conference in blocks. Individually, she ranks second with .93 blocks per set and needs just one more to reach 200 career blocks. Chidera Udeh comes in at sixth in the conference with .85.

UP NEXT
If Marist wins against Saint Peter's, they will play in the second round against an opponent to be determined.
