Men's Soccer Set to Play in MAAC Semifinals

No. 3 Red Foxes Hosted by No. 2 Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Connecticut - Marist defeated Saint Peter's 1-0 on Sunday to advance to the semifinal round of the MAAC Championships, where they will play the second-seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats. This marks the first time the team has reached the second round since 2011.
 
LAST TIME VS. QUINNIPIAC  
  • The Red Foxes held an advantage in shots 17-13, and shots on goal 9-5.
  • Quinnipiac's Jared Mazzola held strong with nine saves to keep Marist scoreless.
  • Rashawn Dally broke free in the 53rd minute to give the Bobcats the lead that would not be surrended for the remainder of the contest.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
  • Quinnipiac enters postseason play having won 10 of its last 12 contests, outscoring opponents 26-8 in that span.
  • The program has now appeared in the MAAC Tournament semifinal round in each of the last three years. The Bobcats have qualified for the postseason in each of the last seven years, and eight of the last 11.
  • The team finished 8-1-1 in the MAAC to earn the second seed and a first round bye in the playoffs.

  • Samad Bounthong and Allen Gavilanes were named First Team All-MAAC on Tuesday morning. They lead the team in points: Gavilanes with 16 (5G, 6A) and Bounthong with 12 (5G, 2A).
  • Freshman Skylar Conway was named Second Team All-MAAC and earned All-Rookie honors. He has contributed three goals and four assists for ten points this season.
  • Goalkeeper Ryan Sinnott leads the MAAC in goals-against average (.69) and is ranked second in save percentage (.825) and shutouts (6).
  • Juan Parada assisted Gavilanes on the game-winner against the Peacocks that propelled Marist into the semifinals.
  • Ten different players have scored for the Red Foxes this season, and anyone can contribute to a team victory on a given day.
MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The winner of this game will qualify for the Men's Soccer MAAC Championships on November 11. They will play the winner of No. 1 Fairfield vs. No. 5 Rider for the MAAC Title and an NCAA Tournament qualifying spot.
