Marist Graduate Jason Myers Selected To Pro Bowl

2013 Alum Played For Marist Football Team For Four Years

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – New York Jets kicker Jason Myers, a 2013 Marist graduate, was selected for his first Pro Bowl on Tuesday.

Myers is the second Marist graduate to be selected to a professional All-Star Game. Rik Smits, who graduated from Marist in 1988, played in the 1998 NBA All-Star Game. According to NewYorkJets.com, Myers is the first kicker in Jets' history to be selected to the Pro Bowl.

This season, Myers has connected on 31 of his 33 field-goal attempts. His 118 points rank fourth in the NFL among kickers. He has also set the following milestones this season:
  • He became the first player in NFL history to hit five 55-yard field goals in a single season.
  • His six field goals of 50-plus yards are the most of any NFL kicker this season. That total is a franchise record.
  • He also set a Jets' record with seven field goals on October 14 in a 42-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Following that performance, he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • Myers set a Jets' record for touchbacks this season with 53.
A native of Chula Vista, California, Myers served as the primary placekicker and kickoff specialist from 2009-12 at Marist, and also handled punting duties in his senior season. He remains the program's record holder for longest field goal at 49 yards, and graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer among placekickers. He is a 2013 Marist graduate.

Myers' professional journey began in the Arena Football League with the Arizona Rattlers and San Jose SaberCats. He is in his fourth season in the NFL. Myers signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 3, 2015, and was the team's kicker from 2015 through midway of the 2017 season. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 3 of this year. After being waived by the Seahawks on Aug. 20, he was claimed off waivers by the Jets the following day and earned the team's kicking job.

The 2019 Pro Bowl will take place on Jan. 27 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
