POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Last month, the Marist men's basketball program made the most of its opportunity to compete overseas.
The Red Foxes spent five days in Belfast, Northern Ireland as part of the second annual Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic. The team took a red-eye flight into Dublin, Ireland the evening of Monday, Nov. 26, and with five hours of time difference for flying east, arrived in the early morning hours the following day. After a two-hour bus ride to Belfast, the team settled in and prepared for tournament play.
Marist won both of its games in the tournament's Samson Bracket, with triumphs over Dartmouth and LIU Brooklyn. The Red Foxes won their first in-season tournament since 2006, and their first off-campus in-season tournament since 1984.
Off the court, the Red Foxes had the opportunity to enjoy cultural experiences. The day before the first tournament game against Dartmouth, the team held a clinic at De La Salle College that left smiles on everyone's faces. The final full day of the trip was spent sight-seeing and bonding as a team.
