Red Foxes Start Slow But Heat Up To Beat Iona

Women’s Basketball Wins Fifth Straight After Downing Gaels 75-55

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Red Foxes surged in the second half to beat Iona 75-55 at McCann Arena Thursday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Marist improves to 13-10 and 9-2 in MAAC play while Iona falls to 1-21 and 1-10 in conference.
 
SUMMARY
Iona raced out to a 9-5 lead midway into the second quarter as Marist struggled to find an offensive rhythm early on. A 6-0 run tied the game up at 11-11 but Iona retook the lead shortly after. A three by Maura Fitzpatrick cut the Gaels' lead down to 17-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Red Foxes went into the second quarter hungry, going on a 17-0 run while holding Iona scoreless for the first five minutes of the quarter. The Gaels' came back with an 8-0 run to cut Marist's lead to 32-27 at the end of the half.
 
Alana Gilmer's two big threes at the start of the third quarter sparked a 14-2 run for the Red Foxes. The offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting 54.2 percent from the field in the second half. Outside of Toyosi Abiola, who scored 14 points in second half, Iona struggled to put points on the board. Marist would maintain a 20 point lead throughout most of the fourth quarter.
