Red Foxes Fall To Quinnipiac In Double-Overtime Thriller

Women's Basketball Has Win Streak End At Nine

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team and Quinnipiac Bobcats battled to the end but after multiple big shots and comebacks from both teams, Quinnipiac prevailed, 80-74, Sunday afternoon in McCann Arena.
 
With the win, Quinnipiac snapped the Red Foxes' nine game win streak and also clinched its fourth-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season championship. The Bobcats improve to 22-5 overall and 16-0 in conference while the Red Foxes move to 17-11 overall and 13-3 in the MAAC.
 
SUMMARY
  • After the first five minutes of play both Marist and Quinnipiac struggled from the field shooting 16 and 33 percent, respectively. Quinnipiac would jump out to an early 8-2 lead.
  • The first quarter would end on a buzzer beater from Willow Duffel and leave Marist trailing by only three points and Quinnipiac leading, 15-12.
  • A steal by Maura Fitzpatrick would turn into a layup by Alana Gilmer giving Marist its first lead of the game 20-19 with just over seven minutes to play in the half.
  • Marist and Quinnipiac would go back and forth for the remainder of the half resulting in nine lead changes. A jumper from Rebekah Hand with three seconds left would give Marist the lead going into the half, 29-28.
  • Marist and Quinnipiac went shot-for-shot in the third period but Quinnipiac grabbed the lead late and headed to the fourth up 41-40.
  • After going back and forth for most of the fourth quarter a three-pointer from Grace Vander Weide would tie things up at 55 a piece. Marist would continue on its 7-0 run and take a 57-55 lead with 30-seconds left in the game.
  • After a series of free throws and offensive rebounds by Quinnipiac, the Bobcats would tie up late in the game at 58-58 and send it to overtime.
  • In the overtime period, Quinnipiac grabbed the lead but playing to the theme of the game, Marist battled back and would tie the game at 67 after a wing three from Rebekah Hand.
  • Quinnipiac again was able to grab the lead early in the second overtime. This time they would hold on and secure the win over Marist 80-74. 
KEY STATS
  • With 20 points and 11 rebounds Rebekah Hand notched a double-double it's the 7th in her career and 3rd this season.
  • Marist had four players score in double digits.
  • Quinnipiac had 21 offensive rebounds compared to nine by Marist. They finished with the edge in total rebounds as well 56-44.
  • Aryn Mclure led Quinnipiac with 25 points while Jen Fay put up 21 of her own.
  • Marist would finish the game 24-for-62 (.387) from the field, Quinnipiac would finish 12-for-22 (.545).
NOTES
  • The overtime game was Marist's first game in overtime since November 24th, 2013 against Old Dominion at the Hall of Fame Challenge in Columbus, Ohio.
  • Maura Fitzpatrick, Alana Gilmer, and Rebekah Hand all played a career high in minutes.
