Baseball Squares Off Against Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The Marist baseball returns to action with a three game series at the Oklahoma State Cowboys this weekend.

Originally the series was scheduled for Friday-Sunday, however inclement weather forced the teams to reschedule and single game on Saturday (4 PM) with the other two games to be played at a date and time to be announced.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Red Foxes are coming off a three game sweep by the Furman Paladins last weekend. Marist fell in the first game 13-4, the second game 5-4 and the series finale 7-6 (10 inn).

Junior Randy Taveras and senior Andrew Rouse led the Red Foxes offensively with five hits in the three game series to go along with two runs scored and one RBI and three runs scored respectively. Redshirt senior Greg Kocinski had a career day on Sunday, setting a single game career high with four hits on the afternoon and tied a single game career high with two doubles on the day, the second time he has accomplished the feat. He also finished with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

POWER FIVE REIGNING CHAMPS:

Oklahoma State are the reigning Big 12 Champions, marking the second consecutive season Marist has played its second series of the year against a reigning Power 5 conference Champion (Mississippi State -2017). A win over the Cowboys this weekend would mark the second straight season with a win over a Power 5 team and the sixth such victory in program history.

SCOUTING THE COWBOYS:

Oklahoma State enters the series with an overall record of 2-1, after its season opening series at Texas State. The Cowboys won their season opener 6-2 before falling 10-1 on Saturday and winning 6-5 on Sunday.

The team is coming off a 2017 season in which it made its fifth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and finished 30-27 overall. Oklahoma State went 8-14 in conference play a year ago to finish eighth in the standings but made history when they became the first-ever team to win the Big 12 Championship title as a No. 8 seed.

The Cowboys entered the 2018 season as the fifth winningest program in Division 1 history with a .663 program winning percentage.
