Strong Marist Offense Takes Down Vermont

Wagner leads the Red Foxes to Victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Marist women's lacrosse team won its home opener against Vermont 15-6. Hailey Wagner's 16 draw controls played a huge role in Marist maintaining possession and finding scoring opportunities. Marist improves to 2-0 while Vermont falls to 1-2.
 
Summary
Wagner gave Marist its first goal of the game within a minute of playing time. Vermont responded with two goals to take its only lead of the game. The Marist defense locked Vermont down for the rest of the half and rattled off eight more goals to finish the half. Eight different Red Foxes found the back of the net in the first half to give Marist a 9-2 lead.
 
Marist came out strong in the second half, scoring four unanswered points in the first six and a half minutes of the game to bring the score to 13-2. Vermont's Elena McWright finally got the Catamounts on the board again with a free possession goal ten minutes into the second half. Wagner won the following draw control and Morgan Jaycox scored to bring the lead back to 11 for Marist. Marist's defense held strong for the rest of the half and Delaney Galvin made some impressive saves in the net to give the Red Foxes the victory.
