Women's Basketball Dominates Monmouth In MAAC Hoops Win

Four Red Foxes Score In Double Figures In Marist’s Seventh Straight Win

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team led wire-to-wire as they defeated the Monmouth Hawks, 85-57, Thursday evening at the Ocean First Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

With the victory, the Red Foxes improved to 15-10 overall and 11-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Monmouth falls to 6-17 overall and 4-8 in the MAAC.

SUMMARY
  • The Red Foxes jumped out to an 11-0 lead less than four minutes into the game. Marist would lead 25-13 after the first on the strength of 4-for-5 shooting from three.
  • Marist would keep it up from range, eventually nailing ten threes in the first half while holding Monmouth scoreless for the final 4:51 to lead 49-31 at the break.
  • After a three minute scoring drought early in the third, Marist would go on an 8-0 run later on in the quarter to extend its lead to 21 with 2:02 remaining in the third, the largest lead of the game up to that point.
  • A buzzer-beating wing jumper from Allie Best would extend the Red Foxes lead to 23 heading into the fourth.
  • The Red Foxes largest lead of the game would end up being 30 with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
KEY STATS
  • Rebekah Hand scored 17 points in the first half on 4-for-4 shooting from three. Hand would finish the game with 29 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from three.
  • Three other Red Foxes would score in double figures along with Hand. Vander Weide tied her career-high with 17 points, Allie Best scored 12 points, and Maura Fitzpatrick added 10.
  • Marist went 12-for-18 from three and 25-for-34 from the line. Half of the Red Foxes' made field goals came from behind the arc.
  • The Red Foxes forced Monmouth into 19 turnovers scoring 21 points off.
GAME NOTES
  • Hand's 20 point game is her sixth of the season and 13th of her career.
  • The Red Foxes 12 triples was one shy of the team's season-high 13 against Temple.
  • Marist made 20+ free throws for the second game in a row.
  • The Red Foxes assisted on 16 of their 24 made field goals, five Red Foxes had two or more assists led by Alana Gilmer who had five.

Marist will return home to battle MAAC rival Canisius on Sunday, February 11th.
