POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team has received significant contributions from talent on its roster outside the United States.
The Red Foxes currently have five international student-athletes on their roster. This quintet has combined for nearly 40 percent of the team's scoring this season.
Here is a closer look at each one:
Junior guard David Knudsen (Copenhagen, Denmark)
- Is second on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game.
- Has a team-leading 25 steals and .894 free-throw percentage.
- Made Dean's List in Fall 2017, was named MAAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 2, and is Marist's Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement's Male Student-Athlete of the Month for February.
Red-shirt sophomore Aleksandar Dozic (Podgorica, Montenegro)
- In his first season on the court after transferring from Marshall and serving the 2016-17 season in residency.
- Has made 14 starts this season, and is averaging 7.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
Sophomore center Tobias Sjoberg (Malmo, Sweden)
- Is the only Red Fox to start all 25 of the team's games this season.
- Is shooting .640 from the field this season, and .631 in his career.
Freshman forward Lasse Gummerus (Espoo, Finland)
- Has made 11 starts this season.
- Is shooting .348 from three-point range.
Freshman guard Andrea Bernardi (Trento, Italy)
- Has appeared in 16 games as a reserve.
- Scored a career-high 10 points against on Iona on Feb. 4.
