Red Foxes Fall To Harvard But Pick Up Impressive Win Over Providence

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Marist women's tennis team trekked east this past weekend to take on Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday and Providence in Rhode Island on Sunday. The Red Foxes split their two matches and are now 5-5 (2-0 MAAC) in dual matches.

HARVARD SUMMARY (7-0, L)
The Red Foxes fell to Harvard on Saturday, March 10th. Harvard swept the match, winning all doubles and singles matches.

"The ladies showed a great deal of fight and determination.  This was a great learning experience and will be very beneficial in conference play," head coach Gary Sussman said.

PROVIDENCE SUMMARY (4-3, W)
The Red Foxes bounced back on Saturday with an impressive win as they defeated Providence 4-3 on Sunday. The Red Foxes took two out of the three doubles matches, and split the singles matches 3-3 with Providence.

The Red Foxes jumped ahead 3-1 after wins from the fifth and sixth singles positions before Julia Gabay clinched the match for the Red Foxes from the second spot with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win over the Friars' Katie Marvin. Providence was able to win two more matches at fifth singles and then at fourth singles when Sophia Moeller was forced to retire due to injury when just two points from victory but not before Marist clinched the overall.

"It was a total team effort, led by the three freshman, who were outstanding once again," said Sussman.
