HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Marist softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Sam Houston State on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Foxes fell in the first game, 3-2, but rebounded for a 6-2 triumph in game two.
Sam Houston State 3, Marist 2 – Game One
Summary
- Marist got on the scoreboard first with a solo homer by red-shirt sophomore Claire Oberdorf in the top of the first.
- A two-run single by Codi Carpenter gave the Bearkats the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
- In the top of the fourth, an infield single by junior Madison Lee on the ninth pitch of her at-bat brought home Oberdorf and tied the score at two.
- Sheridan Fisher scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth for the game's decisive run.

- Sam Houston State led 1-0 through four innings, but freshman Caroline Baratta's sacrifice fly tied the score in the top of the fifth.
- A three-run homer by senior Gabrielle Kelliher on an 0-2 pitch in the top of the sixth gave the Red Foxes their first lead.
- Marist added insurance runs in the seventh on RBI singles by seniors Brittany Colombo and Kourtney Paul.

- Marist outhit Sam Houston State, 12-5. Oberdorf, Colombo, Paul, Kelliher, and senior Miranda Perez all had two-hit games.
- Junior Brooke Peterson (2-1) pitched a five-hit complete game. She struck out one, did not walk any, and needed just 85 pitches to get through seven innings.
- Annie Bailey (2-2) took the loss in relief for Sam Houston State. Starter Darby Fitzpatrick gave up one run in 4.2 innings.

- Kelliher's homer was the 30th of her career, which ties Kyrsten Van Natta for second place on Marist's all-time list.
