POUGHKEEPSIE New York – Marist Athletes had a busy weekend giving back to the community. The Red Foxes hosted the LEAP Girl Scout sport sampler Friday and Special Olympics Sunday.
Women's basketball, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, tennis, track and field and volleyball all volunteered with local girl scouts. Before starting the sports sampler, girl scouts warmed up with athletes for ten minutes. Each sport provided six-20 minute sessions of instruction while the swim team provided two-45 minute sessions. Girl scouts were able to participate in three different activities to experience new sports and skills.
Special Olympic athletes participated in basketball games and basketball skill clinics. Marist student-athletes volunteered to help keep score and stat during games. Throughout the basketball skills clinic, student-athletes helped Special Olympic athletes with the events, running the stations and kept track of score. Special Olympics had a huge volunteer turnout with 140 Marist Student-Athletes volunteering throughout the day.
