Red Foxes And Bobcats Battle For MAAC Crown Monday

Women's Basketball Advances To 13th MAAC Championship Game

ALBANY, New York - The Marist women's basketball team has advanced to its 13th Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in program history and will square off with the Quinnipiac Bobcats Monday afternoon at the Times Union Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Audio of the game will be available on the Red Fox Network and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Foxes defeated the #3 seeded Siena Saints in the semifinal round, 67-51. The Red Foxes jumped ahead with 25-14 first quarter and would hold the Saints at bay for the remainder with timely stops and baskets. Redshirt sophomore Alana Gilmer led the way with 22 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field. This was Gilmer's 4th consecutive 20 point game. Sophomore Rebekah Hand followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds to secure the double-double. She also led the team with six assists. Junior Maura Fitzpatrick was the third Red Fox in double figures with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor. Freshman Willow Duffell filled out the stat line with 11 rebounds, four points, two blocks, and a steal. As a team, the Red Foxes shot 50% from the field.
 
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Quinnipiac defeated Rider in the other semifinal game, 82-62. Aryn McClure led the team with 24 points on 11-15 shooting from the field. Jen Fay followed with 17 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor. Paula Strautmane was the third Bobcat in double figures with 12 points. Carly Fabri led the team with eight rebounds, followed by Strautmane with seven and McClure with six. The Bobcats are now 25-5 on the season, and still have a perfect record in MAAC play.
 
THIS SEASON AGAINST THE BOBCATS
The Red Foxes played well against Quinnipiac this season, but lost both games by six points. Quinnipiac own 62-56 on their court on January 11th. Rebekah Hand led Marist with 18 points on 7-14 shooting from the field and 2-6 from three. Alana Gilmer followed with 14 points and added five rebounds. Red-shirt sophomore Grace Vander Weide just missed the first triple-double in Marist women's basketball history with 10 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Willow Duffell led the team with 11 rebounds.
 
At McCann Arena on February 18th, the Bobcats forced the Red Foxes to play in overtime for the first time since 2013. Quinnipiac pulled out the double-overtime win 80-74. The Red Foxes had four players in double figures: Rebekah Hand scored 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc, and grabbed 11 boards to secure a double-double Maura Fitzpatrick scored 15 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor and 2-5 from three. Alana Gilmer had 13 points and just missed a double-double with eight rebounds. Grace Vander Weide was the fourth Red Fox in double figures with 13 points.

UP NEXT
The win secured a postseason berth for the Red Foxes, who will advance to their 11th NCAA Tournament with a victory over top-seeded Quinnipiac in Monday's MAAC championship game. If the Red Foxes do not prevail, they have clinched an automatic berth to the Postseason WNIT.
