POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's tennis team remains undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play after a 6-1 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Red Foxes back to .500 at 7-7 overall and 4-0 in MAAC play. Niagara drops to 7-17 overall and 2-3 in conference.
Before the match, the Red Foxes sent off their two seniors,
Elizabeth Brozovich and
Claire Schmitz after four years with the program.
The Red Foxes started out hot and won all three doubles matches.
Julia Gabay and
Sam Galu teamed up to win 6-4,
Sophia Moeller and
Chloe Lant won 6-4, and
Claire Schmitz and
Elizabeth Brozovich won 6-2.
In singles play the Red Foxes jumped out to a 2-0 overall match lead as
Claire Schmitz defeated Niagara's Chhinda Som, 6-0, 6-2.
Chloe Lant put Marist up 3-0 with a 6-7, 7-6 win over Andreea Peteu.
Amy Galloway would clinch the match for the Red Foxes with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory at the sixth position.
Julia Gabay and
Claire Schmitz would also win singles matches for Marist.
UP NEXT
The Red Foxes will get right back at it Sunday evening as they travel to North Haven, Connecticut to take on undefeated Quinnipiac at 6:30 p.m.
