LATHAM, New York –The Marist men's tennis team has improved to 5-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and have also clinched a spot in the upcoming MAAC Championships after a 7-0 win over the Siena Saints Sunday evening.
Despite dropping a match at the first doubles position, 6-3, the Red Foxes earned the first point of the day with wins at the second and third positions.
Rudolf Kurz and
Gianlucca Massa won 6-2 from the second spot and
Javier Restrepo and Christoper Gladden won 6-2 from the third.
The Red Foxes carried their momentum into singles play, winning from all six positions to claim the victory.
Javier Restrepo defeated Guille Lopez-Torres, 6-3, 6-4 and
Rudolf Kurz won from the second position 6-4, 6-2 over Siena's Sagar Baines.
At the third singles position,
Gianlucca Massa pulled out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Muhamma Raza-Sawani while
Lars Schouten defeated Geovanny Mendoza, 6-2, 6-2.
Marist won in straight sets from the last two spots as
Christopher Gladden defeated Cameron Kirkwood, 6-1, 6-0 and
Jan Dernic defeated Matt Bellino, 6-1, 6-4.

The Red Foxes will wrap up their MAAC slate with a clash with the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday, April 22
nd at home at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
