LOUDONVILLE, New York – The Marist women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over the Siena Saints to close out their 2017-18 regular season. With the win the Red Foxes move over .500 and finish 9-8 and 6-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
The Red Foxes won matches at first and third doubles to win the first point of the match.
Julia Gabay and
Sam Galu defeated Ann Phillips and Anessa Leyva, 6-3 while
Claire Schmitz and
Elizabeth Brozovich defeated Nanea Perkins and Rina Sakai, 6-1.
In singles play the Red Foxes won at first, third, fifth, and sixth singles.
Julia Gabay won her second match of the day over Ivana Boberic, 6-4, 6-3. At third singles, Schmitz defeated Rina Sakai in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
In the fifth singles position
Amy Galloway defeated Ann Phillips, 7-6(6-4), 6-2 to clinch the match.
"It was a great way to end the regular season, especially considering our opponent for the MAAC tournament was already decided," said head coach
Gary Sussman. "The ladies gave a great effort and were very determined to come away with the win."
UP NEXT
The Red Foxes have clinched the no. 2 seed in the MAAC Championships and will take on the same Siena Saints a week from now in the Semifinal round in West Windsor, New Jersey.
