WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey – The Marist women's tennis team picked up a 5-0 win over the Siena Saints in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon. With the win the Red Foxes advance to Sunday's MAAC Championship game against the regular season and defending champs, Quinnipiac.
The Red Foxes were able to take an early lead after winning at first and third doubles. The first team All-MAAC doubles pairing of
Julia Gabay and Samantha Galu defeated Siena's Phillips and Leyva, 6-0. At third doubles
Claire Schmitz and
Elizabeth Brozovich then defeated Siena's Dunbar and Sakai, 6-1 to earn the first point of the match.
In singles play, the Red Foxes got out on the right foot as Schmitz earned her second win of the day with a straight set 6-3, 6-0 victory over Siena's Leyva. The Red Foxes then went ahead 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth singles by Samantha Galu.
The Red Foxes would win two more simultaneously to finish the match at 5-0.
Julia Gabay earned another straight set, 6-2, 6-4 win at first singles and
Amy Galloway picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at the six position.

Marist will play for its fifth MAAC title in program history tomorrow and first since 2013 as they are set to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 2 p.m. in West Windsor, New Jersey.
