WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – The sixth-seeded Marist softball team has advanced at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship.
The Red Foxes fell to second-seeded Fairfield in their first game of the day by a score of 3-1, but rebounded a few hours later for a 5-1 victory over fourth-seeded Iona in an elimination game.
First Game – Fairfield 3, Marist 1
Summary
- In the bottom of the first, Courtney Hankins, Angelina McGuire, and Kate Robinson strung together three consecutive two-out singles as Fairfield scored the game's first run.
- The Red Foxes tied the game in the top of the second. With two outs, Lauren Beal walked on a 3-2 pitch. Miranda Perez then laid down a bunt single, and the runners advanced to second and third on a throwing error. Casey Page then beat out an infield single, which brought home Beal.
- Fairfield's Courtney Hankins broke the tie with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

- Megan Beiermeister (13-10) took the loss. She started and went 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Nicole Teague relieved her and recorded the final out of the sixth.
- Lauryn Rhinehart (9-5) pitched a complete game for the Stags. She scattered seven hits, struck out two, and walked two. The lone run she permitted was unearned.
- Both teams left seven runners on base.
Second Game – Marist 5, Iona 1
Summary
- Marist opened the scoring in the top of the second. With two outs and the bases loaded, a ground ball up the middle off the bat of Caroline Baratta resulted in an error. When the ball scooted into center field, Beal, Kourtney Paul, and Page all scored.
- In the bottom of the second, Iona scored its first run due to an infield error.
- The Red Foxes added two runs in the top of the fourth. A triple by Paul scored Perez, and Page followed with a groundout, which plated Paul.
Key Stats
- Nicole Teague (4-8) pitched a three-hitter for the Red Foxes. She struck out three and walked just two. The only run she allowed was unearned.
- The Red Foxes had six hits, led by Brittany Colombo and Claire Oberdorf with two apiece.
- The Red Foxes' 6-9 hitters scored all five of their runs, led by Paul with two.
- Baratta had 10 assists. She now has 155 on the season, which is a single-season program record.
- Teague recorded 15 ground ball outs. Her lone fly ball out came on a diving catch by Paul in the third. The Red Foxes turned two 6-4-3 double plays behind her.
- Marnie Skinner (8-10) went the first 6.1 innings for Iona. Just two of the five runs she allowed were earned.
- Courtney Miller was 1-for-3 and scored the Gaels' lone run.
