STATEN ISLAND, New York – The Marist baseball team opens play at the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.)

The #5 Red Foxes will square off against the #4 Siena College Saints in the opening round of the tournament.


MARIST TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:

    IF WIN VS SIENA:

• If Marist beats the Saints AND #6 Niagara loses to #3 Canisius, the Red Foxes will then play #1 Monmouth on Wed (7 p.m.)
• If Marist beats Siena AND #6 Niagara beats #3 Canisius, the Red Foxes will then play #2 Quinnipiac on Thursday (Noon)

    IF LOSS VS SIENA:

• If Marist loses to the Saints, they will play the loser of #3 Canisius vs #6 Niagara on Thursday (3:30 p.m.)

REGULAR SEASON:

• The Red Foxes finished the regular season with a 26-21 (14-10 MAAC) to earn the #5 seed in the MAAC Championship
• After starting 1-10 in its first 11 games, Marist finished the season 25-11, including a stretch during which they won 12 of 13 games between 4/6-4/29

SEASON SERIES VS SIENA:

• Siena took 2 of 3 from the Red Foxes during the regular season, sweeping a doubleheader on Sunday, April 1 with back-to-back 3-2 walk off wins in the final inning. Marist then took the series finale 8-5 on Monday, April 2
• Marist trailed 2-0 in their second-to-last at bat of both games in the DH before tying the score at 2-2 with home runs
  • Game 1 - redshirt senior Greg Kocinski 2 run HR
  • Game 2 – juniors Frankie Gregoire + Randy Taveras solo HR
• The Saints outhit the Red Foxes 25-23 in the series
• Redshirt junior Jordan Roper led Marist with 4 hits, 1 run scored, 1 double and 2 RBI

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY:

• The Red Foxes have won 6 MAAC Championships, the most by any active member – 2000-2002, 2005, 2009 & 2017
• Last season, Marist earned the #2 seed en route to its sixth MAAC Championship, defeating #3 Canisius (6-3), #1 Fairfield (11-8) & #4 Iona (5-1).
• The Red Foxes have qualified for the MAAC Championship in each of the last 4 seasons – 2015 (#6), 2016 (#5), 2017 (#2) & 2018 (#5)

CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD:

• The 2018 MAAC Baseball Championship also consists #1 Monmouth, #2 Quinnipiac, #3 Canisius, #4 Siena and #6 Niagara
• Marist went a combined 8-7 against the tournament field overall during the regular season
• The Red Foxes went a combined 7-2 against #1 Monmouth, #2 Quinnipiac and #6 Niagara
