Red Foxes' Rising Senior Picks Up Most Valuable Player Honors

HOLYOKE, Massachusetts – Marist Baseball's rising senior Randy Taveras was named the 2018 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. Representing the Danbury Westerners, Taveras helped the South Division All-Stars earn a 4-3 victory in the annual showcase for 60 of the New England League's top student-athletes.

More than 50 scouts representing all 30 Major League Baseball (MLB) were on hand for a day that also included the league's annual Skills Competition and 60-Yard Dash, as well as the Home Run Derby.

Taveras tripled in his first at-bat, later scoring the game's first run. For the season, Taveras is batting .333 in 23 games, with 87 at-bats. Taveras' 29 hits ranks third on the team to go along with three home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.

For the Red Foxes last season, Taveras led the team with a .308 batting average with 49 hits and 21 RBIs in 159 at bats this past season. Taveras also led the team with 14 stolen bases on 17 attempts. Taveras hit .325 in conference with a team-high .506 slugging percentage.
