POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team held its first scrimmage of preseason camp on Monday morning at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes alternated working regular game plays with red zone and special teams situations.
The first portion of the scrimmage consisted of five regular series. The defense kept the offense off the scoreboard all five times, and had three sacks and an interception. The Red Foxes then worked on red zone offense, with drives starting at the 20. In this session, red-shirt sophomore quarterback
Jacob Hallenbeck threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to red-shirt junior tight end
Jon Kanda. Red-shirt sophomore kicker
Mateo Zapata (22 yards) and freshman kicker
Max Heinrich (37 yards) both had field goals.
After special teams work, regular drives resumed. A 60-yard completion from red-shirt freshman quarterback
Luke Strnad to senior wide receiver
Juston Christian set up a 10-yard touchdown run by red-shirt sophomore running back
Darryn Jordan. Two series later, a long pass from freshman quarterback
Julian McGarvey resulted in both freshman wide receiver
Sydney Person and red-shirt sophomore cornerback
Ryan Webb coming down with near simultaneous possession. Person was ruled to make the catch at the four-yard line. After the defense held its ground on three straight plays, red-shirt sophomore running back
Isiah Guischard scored a touchdown on fourth down.
On the scrimmage's final drive, red-shirt freshman quarterback
Mike Husni completed a 25-yard pass to Person, and had a 23-yard completion to red-shirt junior tight end
Kyle Hamrick. The drive culminated in a 32-yard field goal by Zapata.
The defense recorded six sacks, with three for
Darien Townsend and one apiece by
Grant Dixon,
Enmanuel Soriano, and
Eddie Zinn-Turner.
Wesley Beans and
Kyle Fleitman both had interceptions, with Beans returning his approximately 40 yards.
Antonio Hroncich recorded two tackles for loss totaling 21 yards.

The Red Foxes will have two more scrimmages in camp – Sunday, Aug. 19 and Friday, Aug. 24. Stretching will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 19, and noon on Aug. 24.
Marist opens the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 against Georgetown at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes open PFL play on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Stetson. This season marks Marist's 10th in the PFL.
