POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team held its second scrimmage of preseason camp on Sunday morning at Tenney Stadium. The scrimmage consisted of live game action with a mixture of red zone possessions.

The first points of the scrimmage came on the opening play of the fourth drive, when red-shirt sophomore linebacker
John Pierce intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. The defense kept the offense off the scoreboard for the game's first six drives.

After the first six drives, the scrimmage shifted to five drives of red zone work, with the offense starting each possession at the defense's 25-yard line. The offense scored touchdowns on the first two drives of this session. Red-shirt freshman quarterback
Austin Day led the first one, which lasted four plays and culminated with an eight-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver
Juston Christian. On the second drive, red-shirt freshman quarterback
Mike Husni threw a 28-yard scoring strike to red-shirt junior wide receiver
Joe Petro on fourth down.

The defense kept the offense out of the end zone on the next three drives, with the offense converting two field goals.

On the first possession following the red zone drives, freshman cornerback
Jhonny Quest intercepted a pass and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown. The final points came on the second-to-last drive, when freshman quarterback
Matt Edwards connected with a deep ball to freshman wide receiver
Dwayne Menders for a 53-yard touchdown pass.

In addition to his pick-six, Pierce had a six-yard tackle for loss on a running play. Red-shirt sophomore defensive end
Darien Townsend had two tackles for loss, including a sack.

The Red Foxes are entering their final week of preseason camp. They will practice in the morning at North Field on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before closing out camp with a Friday afternoon scrimmage at Tenney Stadium.
