POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The men's cross country team provided strong performances across the board at their season opener this morning at Vassar Farms. They won the meet against teams such as Iona, Columbia, Siena, LIU Post and Mount Saint Vincent.
Junior Christopher Rivas was the top finisher for Marist, completing the 6k in a near personal best of 19:26.8 to take fourth. James Draney, Palmer Weimann, Michael Kennedy and Alexander Hogue placed sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth respectively to round out the top ten.
The way team scoring works in cross country is your top five placings count as points, and the higher your team of five places the lower your "score", and the lowest score for a team wins. Teams can submit more than five members to a race, but the top five finishers count for team scoring purposes.
The women also won their race, completing a sweep for Marist.
Following the competitions, Senior Day was held for the Cross Country team as well as the Track and Field teams. 21 members of the team were honored with their families for beginning their last year in the program.
Up next for Marist Cross Country is the Siena Invitational on September 8th, where the teams will travel to Loudonville to match up with MAAC opponents on their home court.
