BRONX, New York – Marist fell to Charlotte in three sets on Saturday. The Red Foxes finish the Rose Hill Classic at 1-2 and sit at 2-4 overall.
Stephanie Stone was named to the tournament team.
Charlotte pounced early, taking a 12-2 lead and forcing a Marist timeout. The Red Foxes were able to get a couple more points in the set but ultimately fell 25-9.
Tied 7-7 in the second set, Marist was able to take its biggest lead off a 4-0 run. Three of the four points came from kills. Charlotte came back, going on a 7-1 run to reclaim the lead. The two teams tussled back in force until Charlotte reached set point at 24-22, forcing a timeout.
Sarah Austin got the Red Foxes within one with a kill but the 49ers responded with a kill of their own to seal the set.
Eight different players recorded kills in the third set, including
Morgan Owens for her first career kill. But the Red Foxes trailed early and never came back, falling 25-15.
- Megan Fergus and Austin each had seven kills
- The 49ers had a strong presence at the front of the net, finishing with 16 blocks compared to Marist's six.
- Owens provided a defensive plug with 14 digs.
The Red Foxes welcome Army for their home opener on Tuesday, September 4. Match time is set for 7 pm.
