LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated at Rider on Sunday afternoon by a score of 86-85 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Alumni Gymnasium as the Broncs erased a 16-point deficit in the second half. Marist senior forward
Ryan Funk scored a career-high 32 points.
- A 6-0 run gave Rider a 15-7 lead at the 14:13 mark of the first half.
- Just 15 seconds later, Funk drained a three on his first attempt of the game. His dunk at the 11:49 mark tied the game, and his three 26 seconds later gave Marist an 18-15 lead and capped an 11-0 run.
- With 2:08 left in the first half, senior guard Brian Parker's three-pointer gave Marist its largest lead of the first half at 41-28.
- The Red Foxes led 44-34 after the first 20 minutes.
- With 13:16 remaining, a basket by senior forward Isaiah Lamb gave Marist its largest lead at 59-43.
- Over the next 4:18, Rider tied the game thanks to a 16-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Stevie Jordan.
- The ensuing five minutes saw five lead changes. With 4:07 remaining, Dimencio Vaughn's basket gave Rider a 74-73 advantage. The Broncs did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
- Rider's Anthony Durham went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in final 30 seconds. His third and fourth free throws gave the Broncs an 86-82 lead with 9.8 seconds to go.
- On Marist's ensuing possession, Parker hit a long three from the left wing to make the score 86-85 with 2.5 seconds left. Jordan was then fouled with 0.6 seconds left. He missed his first free throw, and then intentionally missed his second. On the rebound, the ball was batted out of bounds as time expired.
- Funk's 32 points came on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, a 7-for-11 performance from three-point range, and a 5-for-5 effort from the foul line.
- Parker finished with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists. He was joined in double figures by Lamb, who had 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
- Red-shirt junior center Aleksandar Dozic finished with eight points, a team-high six assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.
- Marist shot .500 (29-for-58) from the field and .556 (15-for-27) from three-point range.
- Rider shot .518 (29-for-56) from the field and .440 (11-for-25) from three. The Broncs shot .643 (18-for-28) from the field and .667 (8-for-12) from three in the final 20 minutes.
- Six Broncs scored in double figures, led by Jordan with 18 points. He added five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
- Marist committed 15 turnovers, with 11 coming in the second half. Rider had nine.
- Funk's 32-point game marked the first time a Red Fox scored at least 30 since Parker had 33 against Manhattan on Jan. 2, 2018.
- Funk jumped from 27th to 24th on Marist's all-time scoring list. He now has 1,064 career points, and passed Bill Gowen (1,046), Fred Weiss (1,059), and Nick Eppehimer (1,060) on Sunday. Next on the list in 23rd place is Rick Smith (1,075).
- Funk's seven three-pointers set a career high previously set nine days earlier at Iona.
- Marist's 15 three-pointers tied a season high, which was previously set at Lehigh on Jan. 13. The Red Foxes' .556 percentage from deep set a season high.
- A senior has led Marist in scoring in 19 of its 20 games this season.
- Rider has won 19 of its last 22 against Marist, including 10 out of 11 at home.
- Marist is now 7-13 overall and 2-6 in the MAAC.
- Rider is 11-8 on the season and 6-1 in conference. The Broncs remain in first place in the MAAC.
