PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Marist Women's Rowing began its fall season of racing on Saturday, October 12 at the Navy Day Regatta, hosted by Saint Joseph's University. The Red Foxes boated seven crews throughout the day and had three top three finishes.
 

VARSITY FOUR

• The day began with the Varsity 4 event, in which Marist entered three crews. 
• The boat made up of Marie Ryden, Sydney Ford, Selena Mildon, Elisabeth Kamm, and coxswain Isabelle Koch finished in second place in a time of 15:06.14, behind Georgetown. They bested crews from Fairfield, Temple, Saint Joseph's, Villanova, Delaware, Penn, and others. 
• The boat made up of Shawna Gilson, Lydia Giguere, McKenna Klineyoung, Jasmine Miller and coxswain Kathryn Moody finished 17th.
• The boat comprised of Lorraine Delia, Mary Schone, Morgan Zuch, Alexandria Steingold and coxswain Catie Stiffler finished 27th.

 

FRESHMEN EIGHT

• The members of the Freshmen 8 kicked off their collegiate rowing careers with an impressive second-place finish in the Freshmen/Novice 8 event, behind Navy. 
• The young crew finished with a time of 14:38.20, ahead of crews from Temple, Fairfield, Lehigh, and Saint Joseph's.  
• Marist's crew comprised of Lauren Muhr, Genevieve Anderson, Caroline Carmody, Elizabeth Kelly, Caroline Voorhis, Ashley Surette, Olivia Nasternak, Ayla Von Sneidern, and coxswain Olivia Siyahian. 

 

VARSITY EIGHT

• Next up were the Varsity 8s, and Marist entered 2 boats in this event.
• The A boat finished in 11th place, behind crews such as Navy, Penn, Drexel, and Georgetown.
• The crew finished in 14:10.21 ahead of Lehigh, Fairfield, Villanova, and others.
• The lineup for the V8 A boat was Marie Ryden, Elisabeth Kamm, Selena Mildon, Sydney Ford, McKenna Klineyoung, Lauren Muhr, Shawna Gilson, Genevieve Anderson, and coxswain Isabelle Koch.
• Marist's B boat finished in 23rd place in a time of 15:21.99 and consisted of Sara Barker, Lydia Giguere, Morgan Zuch, Mary Schone, Caroline Carmody, Ashley Surette, Jasmine Miller, Olivia Nasternak, and coxswain Kathryn Moody.

 

FRESHMEN FOUR

• The final event of the day for the Red Foxes was the Freshmen 4, in which Marist finished in third place.
• The crew composed of Ashleigh Barham, Emma Jauch, Sanlys Sanchez, Ayla Von Sneidern, and coxswain Olivia Siyahian completed the course in a time of 17:08.94.
• They bested crews from Penn, the Merchant Marine Academy, Lafayette, and others.

 

COACHES' PERSPECTIVE

• It was a successful start to the 2019-2020 season for the Marist women with an expected mixed bag of results.
• Coaches Tom Sanford, Julia Rigothi, and Kate Guinan were happy that the results show that the team has been working hard and has a lot of potential to gain a lot more speed throughout consistent performances at both practices and regattas.
• The coaches and the team were excited about the notable finishes in the freshmen events, as these women will be an integral part to the team for the next four years.
• The women's rowing team is looking forward to continuing its fall training and picking up speed as the leaves continue to change along the Hudson River.
